So what is the solution that many workers have discovered? Music! It is guaranteed to help you concentrate and increase productivity levels, as well as calming stress and anxiety. Despite this, some people may object and say it is one big distraction, however we disagree. And we’re going to go through why.
Choose your playlist wisely
Research has shown that listening to classical music whilst working benefits the brain, the immune system, sleeping patterns, and stress levels. However you might not be the classical music type, in fact, most people aren’t, but when choosing a playlist, keep in mind that music effects your mood, your productivity levels, and your stress levels, all depending on what song you listen too.
Tip: Try to select classical piano music or the soundtrack to some films (lala land) when reading or writing because listening to songs with lyrics can confuse the mind and make it hard to concentrate.
When have music on
When completing a task you don’t really have to think about. Like filing for example. It’s very repetitive and you don’t need many brain cells to complete it. Music can also help your attention to detail which is essential while filing.
Also by listening to happy, uplifting songs this can put you in a better mood and therefore promote creative and encouraging thoughts.
Don’t be annoying
Whilst you may enjoy listening to heavy metal the 12 other colleagues in your room might not. Make sure the music is loud enough so you block any distracting noises out but quiet enough so nobody in your office can hear it. Unless you have to answer phones and such like then have it on medium to low volume.
Try not to sing out loud because that could be distracting, unless you’re Adele or Beyonce then sing as much as you want.
When to have music off
If you ever have to use more than 20 brain cells, then i’d suggest to either listen to gentle piano music, or none at all. Doing something that requires lots of concentration, is hard when you’ve got you’re favorite song in your ears and you’re doing your best not to sing along. And this could lead to you making mistakes and procrastinating.
